The things I've been told, the things that grow old Are one in the same The things that we hear, the people we're near Are so easy to blame How can you find out the way to my heart everyday Are you so inclined to? Slip from the fight or be here all night If you have a mind to Don't let me run away Don't let me run away Don't let me run away Convince me to stay here tonight It's a struggle to find the reasons to be kind Stumbling to fall at your feet If our thoughts are so sure Our intentions so pure What is there left to complete? It's the same old regrets that I had when we met Some feelings we're blind to I've been through this before walked through that same door Will you take me through? © 1993 Gibson/Smith

It's amazing to me, how easy it was Don't need a reason, just give me a cause Those looks can tell me my reasons for this Stop telling me all the things that I missed You know some men laugh, laugh at their dreams They don't know what they've seen You can live your life looking to find What's on your mind Don't give in, your mind has not learned to win The tables are turning again Do you know, know where you've been? The silence of grace on this unshaken earth Gives me a reason to believe in my worth I look at you now, you still look the same It's more than the danger that makes it a game It's amazing to me the boundaries of love Cuts like a knife, fits like a glove © 1993 Gibson/Smith

He's loser we both know Every time you're together it's the same old show You say you will, he says he won't You said “I do”, he said “I don't” I'm asking you baby, take a look at me Take a look at me, baby take a look at me Take a good look and see Take a look at me, baby take a look at me Take a good look and see I'm on the outside looking in If I could just play the game I could surely win You're in my head, You're in my heart Just say you're ready, ready to start I'm asking you baby, take a look at me There was a time I'd see your face Under the spell of your amazing grace Too far, too fast, too quick The future was something I could not predict You're in my head, You're in my heart Just say you're ready, ready to start I'm asking you baby, take a look at me © 1993 Gibson/Smith

I wanna see you again tonight I wanna make sure things are right Can I believe your words are true Look at the smile of the fading moon Maybe the dance ended too soon Part of the memory in your eyes Keeps telling me that you won't lie (Can I believe my mind) (Could you be so kind) I've never felt this kind of anticipation My heart's gonna ride the wheel tonight Take me to the top take me outta sight My heart's gonna ride the wheel tonight Take me in the dark, take me in the light How fast the green changes to red Don't try and look to far ahead I'll keep my hope right in it's place It's a game of chance, a game of dare It's showing just how much we care A little compassion would do fine If that's what it takes I'll make you mine (Can I believe my mind) (Could you be so kind) I've never felt this kind of anticipation © 1993 Gibson/Smith

When the neon lights your playground Where your feet hit you call home When the only thing that you know Is the meaning of alone When the facts you hear are all lies Your face don't smile it just bites It's time to think about checking in To the place that makes it all right You're thinking that you have it made When you share her for a night The morning comes and burns you Loves match cannot ignite You try to listen to your heart Tell me what has it been fed The things you order are deadly Do you follow for being led Love is not a game I can play alone And it never works when I try You know we're on the long road God knows how I love you You're either shaken or your stirred There's got to be a way to reach you I will live to see you cured © 1993 Gibson/Smith
6.
Don't see love Don't feel love Don't know why Don't care why I'll do unto you Just like you did unto me Do me favor Don't try to deceive You could not see for yourself The pain I was going through You could not see for yourself Have you been where I am now (You may never know) Can I take you there somehow (You can never know) Don't take the hard road out You got your pride You got my pride You got your truth You got mine too You be yours I can't be mine There is something Trying to shine © 1993 Gibson/Smith

The Cycle 05:37
And so it goes, and so we grow I wonder what she knows Inside her stare, does she still care About the things that she'll leave behind When you sit in the dark Does your memory still spark? From all the love that stood Did you see what I see? Did you bleed when I bleed? In someways we're all the same I dreamed last night of a beautiful light It is the cycle of life We all move on, someone else comes along To live our lives again And the cycle keeps turning and the people keep learning How the cycle keeps moving them on There's a river of raindrops that will flow til the pain stops Then take me the long way back home And the cycle keeps moving and there's no need for proving The fact that we all can belong See the fortune of children as they run by the millions And the cycle of life becomes done When I fade away will another one stay To live out what we know It's sad to conclude, if you don't know the truth Believe me I'll always love you © 1993 Gibson/Smith

Call It Even 03:52
When I think about our past When I think about how it would last I just want to close the door To see what else there is in store Well I know I threw some words at you They flew without a care I want to find some middle ground And breathe the cleaner air Let's call it even baby Let's call it even, even if we're hurtin' and grievin' Let's call it even baby Now I'm roaming through these dusty halls Clean it up and see what's left at all Thinking of all the things we gave Thinking about all of the things to save If you look behind the broken heart You might see a dream come true You decide on what to feel When you're left with only you Walk away satisfied Walk away on your side © 1993 Gibson/Smith

I'm a long time away from you Everything still seems strong Thinking we're the journey Down a road that's long Why didn't it last that long We moved on to other things What I hoped was for the best It's the learning experience That gives us the greatest test Does our picture stare you down I hear it still hangs on your wall My imagination says That we haven't changed at all Why haven't we changed at all We could never say goodbye We just kinda faded away We people ask about us now I tell them that's why I pray How can we forget... If faith had a hand, I'd take it If love wants a stand, I'll make it How can we forget... © 1993 Gibson/Smith

I remember a time Pain was a fresh thing in our minds I remember a place Where the kingdom come brought us face to face The photographs that you save Can make you think of a darker day But the memories that you take Will be like a dream coming for your sake Things get better... So keep me around Don't let yourself down Hear what the sound of the laughter means Take a walk with me We could be looking into a soulless sea But if you want to believe Then a single smile won't let you grieve You will be here for a while So speak to me just like a child And it won't be long, you'll find out This priceless gift is your last train out © 1993 Gibson/Smith

about

Chiseled In Stone, Part 1, is a collection of the earliest Gibson/Smith recordings. Prolifically churning out song after song in 1993, this represents the best songs of their early period. All songs were recorded on a Fostex 160 4-track cassette recorder, but they would not let the limitations of their equipment squelch their passion for great song writing.
